Results:

 

Power usage was reduced by 68% which will result in annual energy savings of $29 per fixture**. Average illuminance on the street was increased by approximately 10%. An estimated 16 year lifespan with minimal maintenance requirements is expected to result in significant maintenance savings. The greenhouse gas emissions avoided will be approximately 93 kg eCO2/fixture/yr***.

“The Vine Street pilot clearly demonstrates that LED street lighting can successfully replace existing high pressure sodium luminaries and provide the benefit of reduced energy consumption, more uniform light distribution, improved colour rendition and potential long-term maintenance savings. While further study is requires before any large scale installations can be considered, this project has provided us with invaluable information into the applicability of the technology.
